SOAR is hiring - bilingual youth mentor and education specialist

Job Description

SOAR's Bilingual Youth Mentor & Educational Specialist responsibilities include providing services to assigned youth, depending on the needs indicated in the referral. These services can include but are not limited to, education support, mentorship, community engagement, and/or community service opportunities. The SOAR team member will be responsible for working to connect and meet with assigned youth and families immediately upon receiving the internal referral. The team member will work toward developing and building long-term positive relationships within the youth’s community which will focus on strengthening areas in the youth’s life possibly relating to issues within the home, education, employment, and/or lack of community engagement. For youth referred for education support, the team member will work alongside assigned youth and families to assist with navigating different aspects of technology in regards to accessing, understanding and completing school work in different school subjects. In addition, the team member will assist the youth in developing the courage and ability to advocate for oneself through goal setting and monitoring, scheduling and conducting regular meetings (In-Person and/or Virtual) and check-ins via text, phone and email. The team member will observe and document the client’s progress, report progress to the supervisor, and communicate with the client's professional team as needed.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Scheduling initial session within 48 hours of receiving the internal referral

  • Scheduling regular meetings and check-ins, with assigned clients and families

  • Providing a positive mentoring relationship between youth according to the design of the SOAR program

  • Assisting the client with educational needs

  • Assessing specific needs for each client

  • Developing and monitoring plans and goals for each client based on the client’s interests, and needs

  • Documenting all in-person sessions with assigned clients in the client database system

  • Documenting all communication efforts with assigned clients and families in the client database system including, but not limited to; scheduled, cancelled, and no-show meetings, and check-ins

  • Maintaining consistent communication with professional team, SOAR Team, supervisor and assigned clients and families

  • Meet with the SOAR team regularly during scheduled meetings to provide updates on assigned clients

  • Connecting and accompanying assigned clients to SOAR activities and events

  • Transporting assigned clients and/or family members, if needed, to meetings, appointments, hearings, and more within the scope of work (Depending on availability)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bilingual, speaking both English and Spanish

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field.

  • Non-Profit Industry experience and knowledge preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience working with at-risk youth and families.

  • Strong working knowledge of Google Drive.
